Field of the invention The present invention relates to a fixing element for thermal screens of vehicles, specially designed to optimize the manufacture of said screens, as well as to reinforce their points of attachment to the chassis or frame of a vehicle, or to
10 any other component (catalyst, silencer, reservoir, tunnel, etc.) thereof.
The present invention also relates to a thermal screen for vehicles, which has reinforced attachment points and reduced thickness.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION Thermal screens, also known as thermal shields, are used in vehicles (cars, trucks, etc.), mainly to protect their occupants and certain parts of the vehicle from the high temperatures reached by some of their components. , especially the most accessible (exhaust system,
20 etc.).
Thermal screens are usually made of metallic materials (aluminum, aluminized steel, etc.) of high thermal conductivity and high reflectivity, which allow the heat they receive from these components to dissipate quickly. Generally
25 manufactured by means of sheets or veneers, properly molded to adapt their shape to the surface of the vehicle on which they are mounted.
To allow its fixing to the vehicle, the thermal screens usually have drills that work in collaboration with nuts and bolts to fix them to the vehicle. However, they often comprise a plurality of support holes where a disk or washer fastener is arranged in each of them. These fasteners allow the insertion through them of fasteners (bolts, pins, screws, threaded studs, etc.) attached to the chassis of the vehicle or any other component thereof. Once the thermal screen is arranged in its corresponding place, it is fixed to the vehicle
by using nuts, retaining discs (fixing stars), etc. They work in collaboration with the fasteners.
These junction or anchor points of the thermal screen, and especially the area
5 around the support hole, are those that usually concentrate largerefforts and vibrations, becoming the weakest points of the screen. SoWell, these junction points are where it often ends up breaking and / orcracking the screen, and where more noise can be generated. Currentlyvarious solutions are known, more or less complex, that try to
10 face this problem.
Among the simplest is the option to increase the thickness of the sheet or veneer sheet, so that the thermal screen acquires a greater mechanical resistance. However, this involves significant inconveniences, such as; a
15 higher raw material consumption, higher production costs, assembly difficulties, handling and product transport difficulties, increased vehicle weight, etc.
On the other hand, the most complex solutions include the use of elements of
20 fixing with damping function. These fasteners are usually made up of multiple pieces, among which stand out; a cylindrical neck or bushing configured to allow insertion of the vehicle's fastener through it, an "S" shaped cross section fixing washer configured to attach to the sheet or veneer that forms the screen
25, and a damping element arranged between the neck and the washer to provide some movement to the point of attachment with the vehicle. Where the neck or cylindrical bushing in turn has two annular flanges that form a seat in which a first end of the damping element is housed, while the second end is housed in a first portion of the fixing washer, the
30 second portion thereof attached to the sheet or veneer. EP1528231A1 and EP1548246A2 show two examples.
This type of fastening element has notable drawbacks. First, it results in considerable complexity, given its high number of parts and the
35 precise arrangement thereof. This increases the cost of the thermal screen, and also implies a longer assembly time. Secondly, the assembly formed by the neck, washer and damping element has an outstanding height or thickness (in the direction of the clamping element), which significantly limits the possible adjustments of the separation distance between the screen
5 thermal and the chassis or vehicle component. And thirdly, the fixing of the washer to the sheet or veneer sheet is carried out by means of a simple perimeter claw formed by the second portion of the washer, which does not sufficiently protect the contour or area around the support hole.
10 Document EP1045153A2 represents an intermediate solution. It shows a fixing element formed by a disk with a central hole. A cylindrical wall extends axially from each of the faces of the disk, one of them being larger in diameter than the central part of the disk in order to form an annular flange or elbow. The sheet or cover sheet of the thermal screen sits on said
15 annular flange, being imprisoned by the cylindrical wall of smaller diameter once it bent over said flange. In turn, the cylindrical wall of greater diameter bends at its end to perimeter grip a fixing star.
20 Despite being a simpler fixing element than those that integrate the damping function, it still presents many problems. In particular, the perimeter claw that holds the sheet or veneer of the screen is very similar to that of the previous cases, and therefore, does not sufficiently protect the contour or area around the support hole. Also, said perimeter claw
25 is born from the central disk, so it requires a minimum thickness or size to be able to form it, and also involves a manufacturing process for the more complex fixing element. In addition, it is more complex at the design and manufacturing level to define the final thickness that the fixing element acquires once mounted on the vehicle, since it must be done from the dimensioning of two separate walls with
30 independent thicknesses.
The present invention solves the above problems thanks to a fixing element formed by a single piece of uniform thickness, whose construction configuration is mainly focused on; reinforce the point of attachment to the vehicle 35 by means of an annular flange with double reinforcement wall; simplify the process of
manufacture of the resulting thermal screen; be able to reduce the thickness of it; and facilitate possible adjustments of the separation distance to the chassis.
In addition, the fixing element of the present invention also functions as
5 separating element or "distantial", acting as a sacrificial material to delaya possible breakage of the point of attachment or anchorage to the thermal screen, caused by thegalvanic corrosion that occurs under certain conditions between the screenThermal and chassis.
Description of the invention According to a first protection object, the present invention relates to a fixing element for thermal screens of vehicles, comprising:
• a cylindrical insert wall delimited by an outer end and an inner edge;
15 • an annular flange that extends perpendicularly from the insertion wall, and which has an outer edge; Y
• a fixing hole around which the insertion wall is located.
The fixing element of the present invention is characterized in that the annular flange 20 is formed by:
• a first reinforcement wall extending from the inner edge to the outer edge; and by
• a second reinforcement wall on which the fixing hole is arranged, wherein said second reinforcement wall extends from the outer edge
25 to the fixing hole, being superimposed on the first reinforcement wall until it exceeds the inner edge.
To be able to use the fixing element with fixing stars (retention discs with central springs that allow the introduction of a fastening element in a
30 and its retention in the opposite direction), the second reinforcement wall comprises a plurality of clamping tabs arranged between the insertion wall and the fixing hole, configured to hold a retaining disc. The fastening tabs protrude from openings of the second reinforcement wall towards the outer end of the insertion wall. The clamping tabs comprise a
35 first vertical or oblique section topped by a second horizontal section. In order to simplify the manufacturing of the fixing element, the fastening tabs are preferably formed by the partial punching of the second reinforcement wall.
5 Preferably, the fixing element is constituted by a single piece of uniform thickness, for example 0.5 to 2 mm, made of aluminum or aluminized steel. This thickness depends on the thickness of the thermal screen (which can adopt values as thin as 0.3 mm in aluminum and 0.15 in stainless steel), as well as the mechanical stresses it receives. The configuration of the
10 fixing element in one piece considerably simplifies the manufacturing process of the same, as well as its subsequent assembly to the thermal screen. In turn, by varying the thickness of the part, possible adjustments of the separation distance between the thermal shield and the chassis or vehicle component can be made.
According to a second object of protection, the present invention relates to a thermal screen for vehicles, formed by:
• a cover sheet having an inner face configured to be mounted on a vehicle surface, an outer face opposite the inner face, and one or more support holes; Y
20 • at least one fixing element arranged in one of the support holes, configured to be fixed to the surface of the vehicle, and having:
• an insert wall;
• an annular flange that extends from the insertion wall; Y
• a fixing hole concentric to the support hole.
The thermal screen of the present invention is characterized in that the annular flange is formed by a first reinforcement wall, and by a second reinforcement wall superimposed on the first reinforcement wall; while the cover sheet around the support hole is fixed between the first
30 reinforcement wall and insert wall.
In this way, the resulting screen has reinforced attachment or anchor points, around which the cladding sheet is held between the insertion wall and a double reinforcement wall, thereby achieving greater absorption of
35 vibrations and a better distribution of efforts.
Preferably, the first reinforcing wall sits on the inner face of the coating sheet; while the insertion wall sits on the outer face of said cover sheet.
The first reinforcement wall extends from an inner edge of the insertion wall, to an outer edge of the annular flange; while the fixing hole is arranged on the second reinforcement wall, where said second reinforcement wall extends from the outer edge to said fixing hole,
10 being superimposed on the first reinforcement wall until it exceeds the inner edge. In turn, the second reinforcement wall comprises a plurality of fastening tabs disposed between the insertion wall and the fixing hole, configured to hold a retention disc.
15 The fastening tabs protrude from openings of the second reinforcement wall towards the outer end of the insertion wall. The fastening tabs comprise a first vertical or oblique section topped by a second horizontal section.
20 Preferably, the fixing element is constituted by a single piece of uniform thickness, for example 0.5 to 2 mm, made of aluminum or aluminized steel.
